Destiny Etiko, a popular Nigerian actress, recently made headlines when she 'jumped' okada despite her celebrity status.
The actor had a flight to catch at the airport, but due to traffic in Lagos on Tuesday morning, he had to take an unusual route.
Destiny abandoned her fancy car on the road in order to beat the traffic and jumped on a bike known as an okada.
Destiny was seen lamenting being stuck in traffic despite waking up early in the video she shared on her Instagram story as she made her way to the airport.
Fortunately, the self-proclaimed 'Drama Doll' did not miss her flight, as she was spotted in a plane en route to her destination.
She said in the video:
"If it hadn't been for Okada, I would have gladly missed my flight this morning."
Destiny praised Nigerian bikers in the caption of her video.
"Okada saved me from terrible traffic this morning that nearly caused me to miss my flight...a big shoutout to all the bike men in Nigeria o Una too much"
Destiny Etiko is a Nigerian actress who was born on August 12, 1989. Etiko was born in di, a village in Enugu state, a southeastern geographical region of Nigeria populated primarily by the Igbo people. Etiko attended primary and secondary school in Enugu State, where she earned her First School Leaving Certificate as well as the West African Senior School Certificate. Etiko relocated to Anambra state in order to pursue a university degree, and then applied to study Theater Arts at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka. Etiko was accepted and admitted, and she eventually earned a degree in Theater Arts.
Etiko stated in an interview with Vanguard, a Nigerian newspaper, that after registering with the Actors Guild of Nigeria, she entered the Nigerian film industry, also known as Nollywood, in 2011 and described her experience as difficult because she had to balance her acting career with her school requirements because she was still a student at the time. Etiko rose to prominence after appearing in the film Idemili, which was produced by Ernest Obi in 2012 but was not released until 2014. Her performance in the film earned her a nomination for the City People Entertainment Awards. Etiko had previously appeared in other films, though not in prominent roles, prior to her role in Idemili.
Unlike what has become the norm in the Nigerian film industry, which is relocating to Lagos state in order to succeed as a creative, Etiko was born in Enugu state and has lived there throughout her acting career. Etiko confirmed in an interview that she had been a victim of sexual harassment against women by male movie producers, who are by far the majority in Nigerian film production. Etiko gave her mother an apartment in 2019 and thanked her for supporting her decision to become an actress. Her father, on the other hand, was initially vehemently opposed to her decision to become an actress. Her father died in May 2020.
Etiko founded the Destiny Etiko Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living in poverty.
