FG authorizes N400 billion for programs to combat poverty

The National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy has received approval from the Federal Government for a budget of N400 billion. The Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programmed, Conditional Cash Transfer, Farmer Money, and Market Money are just a few examples of the welfare programs covered under this. Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, announced the permission for 2022. Following a meeting of the National Steering Committee of the NPRGS at Aso Rock in Abuja on Thursday, Governor Sule spoke with State House reporters to discuss the budget's implementation.

The NPRGS, led by Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, was established by President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired) in 2021. A meeting of the Presidential Poverty and Growth Strategy steering committee is taking place.

"At our most recent meeting, the fourth one, we were able to form a number of working groups that will create the necessary overall budget. "So, they were able to accomplish that, and we were able to win the president's approval as well.

He explained, "Based on the president's consent and what is available in the budget, this meeting that we held was essentially just to go over the implementation of whatever has been approved, both in the budget and by the president. "Considering what is currently available in the budget for this year, which is roughly N400 billion, the Humanitarian Ministry is going to take N350 billion for the expansion of the various programs like the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Program, Conditional Cash Transfer, Farmer Money, Market Money, and the rest of that," he continued. A further N50 billion, according to Governor Sule, will be set aside for a number of other initiatives, including the Ministry of Agriculture's plan to build rural roads and solar energy projects.
