In Abuja on Wednesday, Tinubu will introduce Shettima.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, has rescheduled the introduction of Senator Kashim Shettima for Wednesday. The news comes nine days after the party's national head chose the former Borno State governor to run for vice president. Shettima will be publicly introduced in Abuja's Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Center at noon.

The APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday morning. The statement said, in part, "The All Progressives Congress will formally introduce Senator Kashim Shettima as its vice presidential candidate to the Nigerian people.

This historic official unveiling of our great party's vice presidential candidate is open to all members of the National Executive Committee, the Progressives Governors' Forum, the APC Caucus in the National Assembly, the Federal Executive Council, the diplomatic corps, and presidential aspirants at the June 2022 Special National Convention, as well as APC state chairmen, secretaries, and organizing secretaries. After a private meeting with the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), in Daura, Katsina State, on July 10, Tinubu assured reporters that Shettima was the "selected one."

The ruling party came under fire from worried Nigerians, religious authorities, opposition parties, and the Christians Association of Nigeria just 24 hours after his running partner was announced. With two days left before the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, rumours that Tinubu and the APC leadership may think about withdrawing Shettima from the race and selecting a Northern Christian were spurred by the spate of backlash.

The former governor of Lagos State's camp, however, had refuted the story, claiming that they would not be forced to drop their vice presidential candidate because of the unfavorable assessment being circulated by a small number of people.
