Investigate Nigeria's security issues, a group tells FG

The Federal Government has been urged to look into the nation's security issues by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center. CISLAC Director Auwal Musa Rafsanjani said in a statement made accessible to The reports on Tuesday that the recent attack on the Kuje Medium Custodial Center in the Federal Capital Territory necessitated an investigation. On July 6, the detention facility was attacked by members of the Islamic States of West African Province, which resulted in the deaths of three terrorists, a member of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and four prisoners.

In addition, 879 prisoners—including 69 terrorists—were released during the attack, while 443 others were arrested again. The FG has been charged with conducting a comprehensive investigation by CISLAC, according to the statement marking Africa Anti-Corruption Day. "There is also a need to investigate the deteriorating security crisis bedeviling the country, the latest of which is the Kuje jail breach," the statement, dated July 11, stated in part.  But according to the reports, a military probe into the alleged incompetence of its employees during the strike had already begun.

In addition to the attack, CISLAC also identified a number of critical areas that the FG must improve in order to guarantee transparency and a lack of corruption. "Recent revelations of enormous sums in the homes of military contractors need to be thoroughly scrutinized. Money intended to protect Nigerians' lives and property shouldn't be misappropriated, according to Rafsanjani."We at CISLAC would like to remind the administration of the importance of being open about its spending," he stated. The ongoing fuel shortage, which has persisted for months, is a good illustration. Despite the enormous funds set aside for subsidy payments, this is the case. The public finds it difficult to comprehend how trillions are allocated for gasoline subsidies.

"This year's event is a fantastic opportunity to remind INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission), anti-corruption organizations, and law enforcement agencies of their responsibility in facilitating free and fair elections free of corrupt financing and vote-trading."
