Kaduna car tragedy leaves 30 dead and several burning.

A car accident along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, Hawan Mai Mashi in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, is said to have killed at least 30 people. According to reports, the accident happened on Thursday at about 5:30. The accident included three vehicles and was brought on by speeding, according to Abdurahman Yakasai, Assistant Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in charge of the Zaria Zone. While confirming the collision, Yakasai stated that it featured two Toyota 18-seater buses and a Volkswagen Golf and that speeding and risky overtaking were to blame.

"Our men have evacuated and deposited the remains of the deceased at the hospital morgue," he said. "Those who incurred injuries have been transported to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika Zaria." He went on to explain that the passengers were completely burned beyond recognition and that the agency was working to get the manifest and information on the crash fatalities.

The fact that the automobiles involved in the collision caught fire and made it impossible to rescue the victims made it tough to save many of them.
