Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for president, has responded to the debate over the selection of Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, as his running mate. Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State, had been chosen by Atiku as his running partner for the 2023 election. In an exclusive interview with Arise TV that was broadcast Friday morning, Atiku said he selected the candidates he thought would be most effective.
Wike wasn't rejected, he continued, and he only chose capable candidates. "I didn't reject Wike, I chose who can deliver," Atiku stated. According to past practice, I had chosen an Igbo as my running mate in 2007. For 2023, I chose an Igbo.
Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, presided over the committee that presented them. I choose one of the three people they suggested. People ought to be truthful and fair to me.
