Amusan qualified for the 100m hurdles final at the Commonwealth Games

Tobi Amusan, the most recent female 100-meter hurdles world record holder, qualified for the women's 100-meter hurdles final on Friday at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Amusan dominated Round 1 Heat 3 with a time of 12.40 seconds to advance to the final on Sunday. The world champion will get the opportunity to defend the Commonwealth Games crown she won in Gold Coast, Australia in 2018. The Jamaican trio Danielle Williams, Megan Tapper, Cindy Sembre of England, Michelle Jenneke of Australia, and Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas will all pose competition for her.

It was the 25-year-first old's competition since her world record-setting performance in Oregon, USA, last month. Amusan set an African record by 0.01s by winning the 2022 Diamond League competition in Paris, which was the season's opening event. She then put on another outstanding performance to win the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2022 African Championships in Mauritius, successfully defending her title in a time of 12.57 seconds. She participated in the women's 4100m and took first place.

She participated in a Diamond League meet later that year and placed second with a timing of 12.60 seconds, trailing only Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.
