Nigeria has received 2,649,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccination thanks to the Canadian government. This was announced by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency on Friday in a post on its official Facebook page. The Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Jamie Christoff, officially presented the donation to that country. Dr. Faisal Shuaib, the executive director of the NPHCDA, stated in his speech that the donation was essential to aiding Nigeria in accelerating the vaccination rollout process. According to Dr. Shuaib, Johnson & Johnson provides a single-dose opportunity for full immunization, meaning that if you receive just one dosage of the vaccine, you are considered fully protected. To increase your degree of protection against COVID-19, we strongly advise taking a booster dose two months after the original dose. The booster dosage of the J&J vaccination is administered as a second dose.
Please allow me to take this opportunity to thank you everyone for helping us launch our SCALES 3.0 vaccine rollout plan. We are currently in full campaign mode, which means that our immunization teams are bringing COVID-19 vaccines right to your doorstep in addition to making them easily accessible in hospitals and other designated locations. With the kind of support we have received from the Canadian government today and the continued cooperation of our partners and stakeholders, we are confident that we can put COVID-19 behind us in Nigeria sooner than we had anticipated. We are drawing on our experience with the eradication of polio to fight COVID-19. "In addition to the COVID-19 immunization, our SCALES 3.0 provides clients with access to other PHC services and opportunities for childhood vaccination. This simply means that parents can bring their eligible children to get immunized against diseases like polio, measles, yellow fever, and other pediatric illnesses that can be prevented by vaccination in the same places where adults get their COVID-19 shots. When our mobile teams visit your homes, they carry all of these vaccinations with them. Please extend a warm greeting to them and present yourself, as well as any of your eligible children, for immunization.
The most recent MIC/NIC survey findings reveal that, despite the epidemic, Nigeria is one of very few nations worldwide to have seen an increase in immunization rates. I want to express my gratitude to the parents and caregivers who persisted in taking their kids to get shots despite the difficulties and obstacles presented by the lockdown and the restricted access to medical services. As of August 18, 28,659,698 people had received all three doses of the vaccine, according to the NPHCDA director, with 40,700,979 of the eligible population having already received the first one. Additionally, he stated that 2,666,830 of the completely immunized individuals had received their booster shots. "We demand that the states intensify their efforts to make sure that every eligible adult and kid receives a vaccination before launching the SCALES 3.0 approach. In order to increase the state and community adoption of PHC services and the COVID-19 vaccine, the federal government has created a performance-based incentive. We hope that the COVID-19 pandemic will be defeated and that the rest of the globe, including Nigeria, would recover quickly from its social and economic hardships.
