Corps members are cautioned by NYSC not to get involved in local politics

Brigadier General Mohammed Fadah, the director general of the National Youth Service Corps, has stated that he has zero tolerance for corps members being involved in local politics. During the batch B stream II orientation camp closing ceremony held at Amada, Akko Local Government Area, on Tuesday, Fadah made this disclosure in Gombe State. According to our source, 925 corps members—303 men and 622 women—passed out during the understated ceremony. The Director-General advised everyone to seriously consider Community Development Service, which would benefit society, rather than getting involved in the electioneering process. Ada Imoni, the state coordinator who attended the event on behalf of Fadah, emphasized that management would punish defaulters who violate bye-laws.

The quickest approach to assimilate into the host communities, he said, is to respect and value them. Your letters of posting to Places of Primary Assignment will be handed to you shortly following this ceremony, the Director-General announced. Regarding this, I'd like to remind you of your oath of allegiance, in which you promised to accept your posting in a sincere manner. "I enjoin you to carry out your responsibilities with attention and to follow workplace norms and regulations as well as the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws. You are expected to integrate into your host communities while also appreciating and respecting their traditions in line with the goals of the Scheme.

But I must stress that you are not allowed to participate in their local politics. I also urge you to engage in both individual and group community development. Fadah urged corps members to ask the NYSC management for clarification while noting the perils of fake news and incorrect information in the dissolution of constituent units. I ask you to refrain from using social media for ethnic jingoism, rumor spreading, and the incitement of hatred, he stated. Instead, you should use your online time to promote your own growth as well as the unity, peace, and prosperity of our beloved nation.

In the same line, refrain from making assumptions about matters involving the NYSC and, instead, seek answers through our website, social media platforms, and other official means. Fadah reacted to the frequent mishaps and security threats by advising corps members to get the proper approvals while advising against traveling at night.
