Ebira tribes ban festivities in Ondo due to safety concerns

The Ebira people of Ondo State have declared a ban on all traditional festivities in their towns as part of measures to combat crime and criminals in the area. The communities encouraged Rotimi Akeredolu, the state governor, to create Amotekun posts in the many villages where the Ebira people live throughout the state and to recruit their natives to the state security network agency to aid in the fight against the criminal elements. One of the leaders of the communities, Abiodun Umoru, said his people are prepared to work with the security forces to combat instability in the state while speaking in Akure, the state capital, on behalf of the Ebira people from Kogi State who reside in Ondo State.  Idris Ojo, an escapee from Kuje jail, was mentioned as one of those apprehended for carrying out the slaughter in Owo on June 5, 2022, a month later. Umoru voiced displeasure over this, saying steps had been made to guarantee that criminals were driven out of the Ebira village.

He claimed that one of these measures was the outlawing of traditional celebrations in the state's Ebira areas and that anyone trying to carry out evil in the state while hiding behind a traditional festival would be turned over to security personnel. He declared, "We can't just stand by while some of our relatives transgress our valued cultural standards and beliefs.
"We have cautioned and educated our women about the risks of socializing with suspected criminals by providing information to them when they are selling food items in strategic spots on major roads.
