Imo's government supports funding for the digital economy.

The digital economy is the best passport to the global economy, according to the Imo State government. Prof. Kenneth Amaeshi, the state government's chief economic adviser, claimed that with the right social media and e-commerce tools, the digital economy enables people to acquire goods and services and build wealth. According to a statement released by the Chief Economic Adviser's office, Amaeshi said that the state government had embraced the digital economy.

The statement said in part, "Professor Kenneth Amaeshi, visiting professor of leadership and financial markets in Africa at the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom and professor of sustainable finance and governance at the European University Institute in Italy, has identified the DIGITAL ECONOMY as the best passport to the global economy.

The Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of Imo State, Professor Amaeshi, made this claim during a Webinar, a biweekly program sponsored by the office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of Imo State, on the subject of "Digital Economy Opportunities in Imo State." The Webinar airs from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Saturday on Orient FM, 94.5 FM, and Ozisa FM, 96.1 FM.
"Utilizing the proper social media and e-commerce technologies, Prof. Amaeshi claims that the digital economy enables consumers to access goods and services as well as build wealth.

"Earlier in his remarks, Professor Boniface Nworgu, the program's host and the Imo State Executive Council's Commissioner for Science and Technology, praised Professor Amaeshi for the unique initiative he brought to Imo State in an effort to reveal the State's untapped potential. He also mentioned that one of his Ministry's primary mandates included the digital economy and expressed his joy at being a part of the program.
"He continued by stating that one of the main goals of the current State government, led by His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, is information and communication technology, and that the state's digital economy has received attention on a national level.

According to Prof. Nworgu, Rt. Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, the President and Commander of the Nigerian Armed Forces, recently made Governor Uzodimma a member of the National Digital Economy due to the state's expertise and successes in the digital economy.

However, the Honorable Commissioner emphasized the necessity to expand chances for the digital economy to rural areas in order to examine the needs of the rural residents who he recognized as potential digital economy beneficiaries.
