Nigerians can access eNaira using USSD, according to CBN

Nigerians will be able to use their mobile phones' Unstructured Supplementary Service Data code starting the next week to conduct transactions on the eNaira wallet, according to Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued the eNaira as legal tender, a digital currency supported by the law. It is the Naira's currency in digital form. Nigerians can open an eNaira wallet on any phone of their choosing using the designated USSD code in addition to transacting, according to Emefiele. He claims that all Nigerians will need to do to do transactions on their phones is call *997# from their phones. At the 2022 eNaira Hackathon's Grand Finale on Thursday in Abuja, the CBN governor made these announcements.

The ability to open an eNaira wallet and complete transactions will be available to all Nigerians, banked and unbanked, by simply dialing *997 from their phones. After then, both businesses and customers with bank accounts can send and receive eNaira to any bank account via the NIBSS Instant Payment (NIP). The eNaira's integration with the current national payment infrastructure will be strengthened as a result. Because the eNaira is anticipated to be available to all Nigerians, the CBN will boost the country's degree of financial inclusion. Additionally, it would open up greater opportunities for include unbanked people in the digital economy. Emefiele reportedly stated that central banks in Africa and other regions of the world are attempting to research Nigeria's eNaira initiative on May 11, 2022, according to social media reports. "We are happy with what we are accomplishing in the field of the Central Bank Digital Currency, CBDC," Emefiele stated. During an experience-sharing tour of the CBN's CBDC (eNaira) by representatives of the Bank of Uganda in Abuja, Emefiele noted, "What we are doing in the field of eNaira is garnering the interest of different countries across the world."He mentioned that central banks from Africa and other regions of the world have been contacting the CBN frequently to learn more about what the bank was doing.
