After a bloody gunfight, officers from the Katsina State Police Command managed to free two individuals from terrorists early on Friday morning at Wapa village in the state's Kurfi Local Government Area. The men were identified as Wada Sale and Alhaji Aminu Wapa. According to the authorities, up to 24 terrorists broke into the village shortly after midnight and kidnapped the men. After receiving a distress call about the invasion, the police mobilized to the area to confront the terrorists, according to the command spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the situation.
He continued by saying that the police squad repulsed the terrorists and freed the two individuals, and that it was suspected that many terrorists were killed in the conflict. In his own words: "This morning, Friday, August 19, 2022, at around 01:00 a.m., a distress call was received that terrorists, numbering twenty-four (24) on motorbikes, firing intermittently with AK47 rifles, attacked Wapa village, Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State, and kidnapped the pair of Alhaji Aminu Wapa and Wada Sale of Wapa village, Kurfi council. "The Command deployed its tactical units to the location as soon as it received the intelligence and engaged the thugs in a hard gunfight. The crew was able to fend off the terrorists and free the abducted victims.
"It was believed that numerous terrorists were killed or fatally injured during the encounter. Police officers are continuing searching the area in an effort to apprehend the injured terrorists and/or find their dead bodies. Isah claimed that Idrisu Dauda, the commissioner of police, had praised the personnel's efforts in fending off the terrorists. Additionally, it was reported that the state's police commissioner had asked citizens to support security organizations at all times in the ongoing fight against terrorists and other criminals.
