Sokoto CP cautions officers against extortion and improper behavior

 Muhammed Usaini Gumel, the commissioner of police for Sokoto State, has once more issued a warning against extortion and unprofessional behavior to command members. Gumel repeated that Usman Alkali Baba, the inspector general of police, has sworn never to tolerate indiscipline in the police in any form while speaking to top police officials at a news conference on Monday in Sokoto. "The current IGP and the Force Management Team continue to be built on a foundation of professionalism and discipline," he declared. In light of this, the IGP of the Nigeria Police Force commands all police officers to uphold the public's trust and treat them with compassion at all times. "On this point, it should be noted that three police officers who were seen in viral recordings glorifying and defending extortion while violently violating the rights of the people they had pledged to serve and protect have been fired.

"In a similar vein, all Sokoto State Command Policemen are strongly cautioned against engaging in such misbehavior, and any failing officer will be treated seriously," the statement reads. He claimed that recent security developments revealed a worrisome pattern of an increase in the danger that terror elements, such as bandits, kidnappers, and other highly organized and mobile violent criminal syndicates, posed to the country. "In light of the aforementioned, allow me to reiterate to the public that the state's police are now increasing the levels of cooperation and synergy with the military and other pertinent security agencies in an effort to stop the current decline in internal security.

Without the involvement of stakeholders, he continued, "We cannot accomplish this goal alone in order to battle these criminals who are our common foes and hell-bent on changing our values for communal peace and security." Three individuals with a history of stealing motorcycles were paraded by the command throughout the state in the meantime. One of the suspects was captured when he stole a Yamaha motorcycle from Inspector Mustapha Abdullahi, who had gone to the hospital for treatment. Yashir Shehu hails from the city's Bado neighborhood.
