Agom-Eze sought N20m from me in Ebonyi South, says Umahi

Dave Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi State, claims that Ann Agom-Eze, his major rival for the APC nomination for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District, wanted N20 million from him. In an interview with Arise TV on Friday, Umahi asserted that Agom-Eze never served as the APC's senatorial candidate and that there was no justification for challenging his selection as the party's nominee. Austin Umahi won the APC primary election for the Ebonyi South senatorial zone by 283 votes, while Ann Agom-Eze finished in second place with two votes. Umahi described the events in detail. Austin was named the party's candidate by the electoral statute.  "Agom-Eze never served as the party's nominee at any point in time. Let me say this: If some men are thought to lack honor, shouldn't women also possess honor?

"When Ann came to negotiate for N20 million that I should provide to her, she texted me. I didn't decline. She acknowledged in a WhatsApp message that she withdrew herself and without any prodding. For what was she withdrawing? The Electoral Act of 2022 makes no provision for the withdrawal of the second-place finisher in a primary election. She voluntarily withdrew under oath from running in any future APC primary in Ebonyi State.
