Ice Prince, a musician, was charged by the Lagos State Police Command on Friday with kidnapping and beating a police officer in the Lekki neighborhood of the state. According to a tweet from the state police public relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the musician was stopped by a police patrol squad in the region about 3am for driving without license plates while en route to a destination in the state. According to reports, the policemen urged that Ice Prince go to the station, and when he agreed, one of them got inside the car. In a tweet, Hundeyin said that the performer afterwards kidnapped the police officer, abused him, and threatened to toss him in the river, and that Ice Prince was subsequently detained. The PPRO reported, "Today at 3am, @Iceprincezamani was pulled over for operating a vehicle without license plates. To be driven to the station, he consented. The police officer was afterwards kidnapped by the man in his car, who then attacked him and threatened to dump him into a river. He was detained and would be charged today. In response to further questions, Hundeyin stated, "He (Ice Prince) is facing three counts bordering on assault, obstruction, and kidnapping. He's been charged."
