Aituaje Iruobe, better known as Waje, is one of Nigeria's top female singers and has two reasons to celebrate.
The musician, who turns 42 on September 1st, has started a project to make the occasion special.
A new song called Unbroken has just been released, the single mother of one said on her page.
She wrote, "Sharing the good news,
"I give thanks to a wonderful God who has been merciful to me. Without you, who am I? I've got no idea. Na me be this, praising Abasi with hallelujahs! You are God alone who holds me UNBROKEN!!? album available across all digital platforms.
Waje revealed that she was having vocal difficulties in 2019. Waje wrote in an open statement on her Instagram account that she was unsure whether her struggles were brought on by mental stress or physical problems.
"I'm having vocal difficulty,
been having trouble for a time.
I'm not sure if it's psychological or medical, but it doesn't affect his intentions for me. Waje's friend Omawunmi, who had seen the video, responded to it on social media by urging Waje not to give up because doing so would leave her all by herself in the music business.
"My Dear Friend became Sister," she penned, "We had this talk over this recent video in private." But I want to tell you through this media. I completely relate. I'm grateful for your love, encouragement, and strength as a woman. You can't quit anything, I know that! and ignore me in this sector? Mbanu”.
Aituaje Iruobe, better known by his stage name Waje, is a three-octave vocal range Nigerian singer. She first became well-known after appearing on the P-Square remake of "Omoge Mi." Waje also contributed to the 2008 smash song "Do Me" by the duet. She also provided vocals to M.I.'s "One Naira" and Banky W's "Thief My Kele." Waje was one of the four judges for The Voice Nigeria's first season in 2016. Waje made a cameo appearance in the 2018 season finale of the Africa Magic soap Battleground.
On September 1st, Waje was born in Nigeria's Ondo State city of Akure. She is the family's first daughter and firstborn child. After her parents moved, she spent her formative years in Benin City. She had to deal with the difficulty that came along with her parents' divorce when she was a little child. Waje became pregnant while taking her secondary certificate exams in her last year of high school. It was not until five months into the pregnancy that she informed her mother. She was temporarily prohibited from performing in the church choir due to her unmarried pregnancy. She delighted the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa by singing gospel songs, and he decided to assist her throughout her entire secondary school years after hearing her sing. Later, Waje moved to Nsukka to enroll in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she graduated with a degree in social work. She gave performances at school concerts and fellowships while she was a student at the university. To hone her skill, she listened to artists like Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin.
Waje is an only parent. Amaka Iruobe, her sister, is an actress who has been in supporting roles in the films First Cut and the popular soap opera Tinsel. Through an organization called "Waje's Safe House," where she collaborates with different NGOs every three months to further their causes, Waje worked with the young people in her community. The first initiative supported under Waje's Safe House was the Mental and Environmental Development Initiative for Children, assisting Project HELP (Help Educate the Less Privileged) with the aim of raising money through Ring Back Tones with her singles "Oko Mi" and "I Wish" to allow children to continue their studies in the school in Makoko. She was one of the well-known performers from Nigeria that worked with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to oppose vote-buying, electoral fraud, and other forms of violence and thuggery.
