Wike: According to a PDP leader, Atiku is asking Ayu to resign.

According to Katch Ononuju, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, the party's presidential candidate, wants the party's national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to step down so that he may have a peaceful party that will win the 2023 presidential election. Ononuju was speaking on Channels TV's Sunrise Daily when he discussed the party problem and the disagreements between Atiku and Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State. "According to my own inside information, the candidate wants Mr. Ayu to retire, but party hawks are pleading with him not to. I have no idea why. In order to have a calm party to the election, the candidate wants Mr. Ayu to depart, according to Ononuju, who spoke on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily program on Thursday.

“If Atiku keeps saying he is a unifier, let him now unify the party by taking choices and also acting to aid the southerners in this matter of inclusion,” he continued. Atiku, according to him, needed to do more than just wish for party unity. In order for the party to be stable, he added, "He doesn't only need to wish; he should work and act in assisting the stability in the party by working with others to ensure that Mr. Ayu goes." He claimed that Ayu is to blame for the party's present internal disintegration. "He (Ayu) divides the party if he stays; if he stays, the party might not win. He will cause the party to implode if he stays. Ononuju claimed that the movement to replace Ayu with a southerner went beyond Wike and was a collective demand of the PDP's southern caucus, which did not want northerners in the party's three top positions as they are at the moment. Ayu had meanwhile reiterated that he would not step down.
