ASUU plans to sue the FG for CONUA and NAMDA registration

The Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics have been registered, and the Academic Staff Union of Universities plans to sue the Federal Government over this. This was said by ASUU's attorney, Femi Falana, on Channels Television on Thursday. Chris Ngige, the minister of labor and employment, had given certificates of registration to CONUA and NAMDA on Tuesday.

The two organizations will coexist with ASUU, according to Ngige, who spoke as he handed the certificates of registration to the two unions. Since February 14, 2022, ASUU has been on strike in protest over unpaid allowances and in demand of a better welfare package from the Federal Government from professors at public universities. Falana mentioned that the union would fight the Federal Government over the registration of the two unions in an interview with Channels Television, the principal attorney for ASUU. "ASUU will appear in court. It will be the NIC," Falana declared.

Professor Attahiru Jega, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, also charged Ngige with adding complications in an interview with Arise Television. He filed an appeal against the Industrial Court's ruling, and now he has registered two unions while attempting to get ASUU banned. If this is permitted by this government, I believe it is a recipe for disaster and could really make the issue of strike action worse than it already is, Jega had previously stated.
