Expert asks FG to give the needs of senior Nigerians' health priority.

Dr. Oladipupo Fakoya, a physician, has urged the government at all levels to devise strategies for addressing the unique health needs of the senior population. Fakoya, a doctor who oversees the Ijesaland Geriatric Centre, Ilesha, a division of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, said it had become crucial for the government to take action in that regard because old age frequently comes with a number of chronic conditions that, if left untreated, can negatively affect the elderly's quality of life.

In honor of the International Day of Older Persons, he gave a speech at a free medical outreach program for elderly people in rural communities that was organized by the Centre in partnership with the OAUTH and held in Imesi-Ile, Osun State. Over 200 elderly residents received free health screenings, consultations, and medications at the event.

According to a statement from Fakoya that was obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, "it becomes imperative for government at all levels to begin to look at ways of addressing the needs of the elderly population, particularly their health challenges, as many of them suffer from multiple chronic conditions that are detrimental to their quality of life when not attended to."

In a similar vein, Dr. Busola Oluwajuyitan, a co-founder of Sire Health Care Services, claimed that if the government could provide senior citizens in the nation with appropriate healthcare services, they would live longer. Oluwajuyitan, whose organization specializes in offering medical services to elderly people, urged the government to develop appropriate health policies and programs that would address the unique medical requirements of the elderly.
