Mama Rainbow @ 80: Iya Awero, MC Oluomo, Iyaalaje of Oodua land attend Legendary Actress’ birthday party

On Wednesday night in Lagos, famous Yoruba actress Mama Rainbow celebrated her 80th birthday with a huge party.

The event was a double celebration as Mama Rainbow used it to commemorate her 55th year performing in the motion picture industry.

A video captured the scene. The great celebration was attended by movie stars Iya Awero, Ayo Badmus, and Iyaalaje of Oodua land, as well as Chief Mrs. Toyin Kolade.

Another video footage showed the moment Musiliu Akinsanya, alias MC Oluomo, Chairman of the Lagos State Park and Garages Management, entered the party with his men when they were engaged in a low-key talk with the partygoer.

Mama Rainbow was also spotted dancing enthusiastically while being applauded by folks at her table.

Idowu Philips, better known by her stage as Iya Rainbow, was born in Nigeria on October 16, 1942.

Southwest Nigeria's Ogun State is home to Ijebu Ode, where Idowu Philips was born on October 16, 1942. For her primary and secondary schooling, she went to African Methodist School and Anglican Modern School. Her stage name, "Iya Rainbow," is derived from Sir Hubert Ogunde's late theater company, Osumare, which in British English means "rainbow." Ogunde passed away in 1990. Idowu Philips spent a number of years working as a healthcare assistant at general hospitals in Nigeria while occasionally acting in plays. After the passing of her husband, Augustine Ayanfemi Phillips, who had a close working relationship with the late patriarch of the Nigerian film industry, Sir Herbert Ogunde, Idowu decided to pursue acting full-time. She has appeared in a number of Nigerian movies (among them, Apaadi, Eru, and Aje ni iya mi).  Idowu has five youngsters.

Idowu Philips represents the brand of the telecommunications business Airtel. Idowu Philip also serves as an ambassador for the Yotomi Golden Development project, a low-cost housing estate started by the late film industry tycoon Alade Aromire.
