Man arrested in Kano by NSCDC for alleged impersonation and extortion

Umar Alhassan was detained by members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps from the Kano State Command for allegedly extorting and impersonating a passenger on a flight from Lagos to Maiduguri, Borno State. DSC Ibrahim Abdullahi, the command's public relations officer, announced this in a statement on Friday. He said that Alhassan, a resident of Unguwar Rimi in the state's Kumbotso Local Government Area, pretended to be a member of the NSCDC's personnel and attempted to force the victim to give him his smartphone for N20,000 while the phone's market worth was N80,000. "When the victim objected, the culprit demanded N10,000 to cover his bail.

"The victim's parents sent the suspect $5,000 through his account number, but he rejected it, and police were later informed," he claimed. He confirmed that the suspect had been detained and then turned over to the NSCDC for further investigation and legal action. The PRO added that the suspect's possessions included 12 various kinds of phones, two radio sets, N35,945 in cash, Umar Alhassan's NSCDC ID card with Service No. 31328, a blood group of O+, and Rank CA III.
