Williams Uchemba warns of an impending flood: "Water in Third Mainland Lagoon is high."

Williams Uchemba, a well-known actor, filmmaker, and philanthropist, has used his official social media account to warn the public that the water that is nearly reached the level of the third mainland is real and not a rumor. The actor who just passed the third mainland bridge in a car claimed that the water is real and advised people to visit the Lagos State government website to learn more about the places that would be impacted. Williams said, “Yea 3rd mainland lagoon is high and the Lagos State government said the flooding is coming. This is not to scare you but get informed and be ready for anything especially if it’s coming to your side. Stay safe”.

Online users responded to this post by expressing shock at the water's depth and other emotions. In Nigeria, large cities and villages have been devastated by flooding for weeks, and the government has been urged to respond quickly. The Lagos State Government recently warned waterfront residents in affluent Ikoyi, Lekki, and Victoria Island as well as coastal towns in Epe and Badagry to be cautious of backflow owing to the high tide in the Lagos Lagoon. Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tunji Bello issued the warning. Bello said that the lagoon's high tide had made it difficult for storm runoff from the various channels to discharge into the lagoon properly. He added that this may have resulted in stagnation into the streets and major roads until the lagoon receded to allow a discharge of the channels.

Residents of the vulnerable areas on Lagos Island and adjacent coastal communities have been instructed to continuously monitor accidental rainfall, ensure situational awareness at all times, avoid dropping trash into drains, and frequently clean their tertiary drains. Bello reaffirmed the earlier flood warning issued by the state government, warning all people living along the Ogun River to be vigilant during these times, especially those in Ketu, Alapere, Agric, Owode Onirin, Ajegunle, Alagbole, Kara, Isheri, Olowora, Araromi, the Otun Orisha community, Agiliti, Maidan, Mile 12, Odo Ogun, Owode Elede, The commissioner also disclosed that the state government has started clearing massive amounts of drainage and building new channels, in addition to ongoing deployment of the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang to clear manholes and other obstructions so that the drains can function at their full capacity to contain run-offs.
