Some Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members have criticized the federal government for failing to pay their full salaries after ending an 8-month strike they initiated.
Despite the strike's postponement, some union members who talked with TheCable claimed that they have not yet received their full paychecks from the government.
Chairman of the ASUU of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Moyosore Ajao, told the publication;
"While those of us who have received ours received half wages for October, I have not yet received mine. We don't see why they must give us half pay.
Unwanted to be identified, a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) also acknowledged that he did not receive his entire wage. The month for which the salary was due was likewise unclear.
The instructor said
"What I received wasn't quite half of my wage. However, it falls short of my typical pay. In essence, they didn't pay the whole compensation; that's the correct term. Additionally, the month was not mentioned.
Another lecturer who spoke to Punch asserted that several professors were paid N121,000 in October.
The instructor said
"Some lecturers received a N120,000 alert. Unconfirmed rumors claim that the government's decision to pay us half salary came from the top, but we have yet to receive an official response from them.
ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed the news and expressed surprise at the amount paid.
Osodeke further disclosed that the union's National Executive Council will meet to discuss the half-salaries paid to lecturers.
He stated:
"Half salary were paid, with absolutely no justification. We discovered that Ngige instructed the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System in a letter to only pay us for the time when we ended the strike.
We haven't received the letter, although having heard there was one. A meeting will soon be called. He stated:
