How I lost everything I had – Talking drummer, Ara recalls

Aralola Olamuyiwa, a well-known international African talking drummer who goes by the stage name Ara, has spoken about her past struggles and how she overcame them.

She described how she lost everything as a result of giving up her "Eko inspire me project."

Ara claimed that in 2019—after selling her four cars and leaving her home—she was homeless and without hope.

She made this statement on Tuesday while paying the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a courtesy visit.

The drummer who spoke said:

The "Eko Inspire me" initiative aims to give hope to Lagosians who have experienced hardship and negative influences.

She added that the initiative had been underway for ten years. However, she added that she became frustrated and gave up the project in 2019 due to financial issues, adding that she had to sell her home as a result, which left her homeless.

"I was homeless and without hope after losing everything, but someone gave me a room in a hotel where I spent a year sleeping next to my son. I had nothing, so I had to wait for food from the kitchen before I could survive.

"Back then, when people gave me tokens like N15,000, I thought it was millions. It was truly awful.

The person who helped me, prayed for me, and helped me get a car was my late mother. After COVID-19, I rebuilt my career, and I am grateful to the governor for his support of the "Eko inspire me" initiative.

In order to remove drug addicts and illiterates from the streets of Lagos, Ara explained that her initiative would engage and empower those who were evicted.

She uttered:

"Many of them weren't born that way; they were victims of circumstance. These people on the streets of Lagos will be connected by our initiative, which will also give them hope.

We will hold auditions where we will find new talents and help them develop into something great.
