Davido Set To Perform At World Cup Closing Ceremony In Qatar

 









David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, a Nigerian singer, is reportedly set to perform at the ongoing FIFA World Cup closing ceremony in Qatar on December 18, 2022.

According to Naija News, Davido canceled all of his performances and shows following the death of his son, Ifeanyi, in a drowning accident on October 31, 2022.

The singer made his first public appearance at his uncle Ademola Adeleke's inauguration as Governor of Osun State.

Stephen Hung, a Chinese businessman, confirmed in a post on his Instagram page on Thursday, December 8, 2022, that Davido, who was originally scheduled to perform at the World Cup opening ceremony, will now perform at the closing ceremony.

"So happy my bro @davido confirmed he will perform at the World Cup Qatar closing ceremony," he wrote. I can't wait to see him."

Davido's first public appearance since the death of his first son will take place on this stage.









David Adedeji Adeleke (born November 21, 1992) is a Nigerian-American singer-songwriter and record producer better known by his stage name Davido. His music incorporates traditional African elements as well as global mainstream pop.

Davido received the Next Rated Award at The Headies in 2012 after the release of "Dami Duro," the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo (2012). He had several hit singles between 2013 and 2015, and he signed a record deal with Sony Music in January 2016. He then established the record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), which signed Dremo, Mayorkun, Peruzzi, and Liya. Davido signed a record deal with Sony's RCA Records in July 2016. In October 2016, he released the 5-track EP Son of Mercy, which was supported by the singles "Gbagbe Oshi," "How Long," and "Coolest Kid in Africa." Davido renegotiated his contract with Sony in April 2017 due to creative control issues, and later that year, he released five singles, including "If" and "Fall." "If" sparked worldwide social media activity, while "Fall" became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history. Davido has been dubbed "the king of modern-day afrobeats."

While at Oakwood, Davido purchased musical equipment and began producing beats. He also formed the music group KB International with his cousins B-Red and Sina Rambo. Davido left Oakwood University to pursue music full-time and moved to London to work on his vocals. Davido paused his music career after returning to Nigeria in 2011 and agreed to honor his father by enrolling at Babcock University.

After his father paid the university to establish a music department for an inaugural class of one student, he graduated from Babcock in July 2015 with a degree in music.

On July 17, Spotify announced that Davido's music had surpassed 1 billion streams on the platform, joining other Nigerian artists such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, and CKay.

Davido has two boys and two girls. He's engaged to chef Chioma Rowland, the mother of his third child, the late David Ifeanyi Adeleke Jr. On November 6, 2022, Davido married Chioma Rowland.
