As the year comes to a close, Nollywood actress Funke Akindele reflects on her many blessings.
Despite her divorce from her sons' father and husband of 6 years, Funke Akindele has a lot to be thankful for.
This year has undoubtedly been a fortunate one for the aspiring politician, as she has continued to win at all levels. Her foray into politics as the PDP's deputy governorship candidate for Lagos State was the highlight of her year.
Funke Akindele revealed her grateful mood on Instagram, where she shared stunning photos. The mother of one expressed her gratitude.
"Thank you," I say.
Funke Akindele had recently announced her intention to leave Nollywood to pursue a political career.
Remember that Funke Akindele stated in July, while confirming her PDP deputy governorship candidacy, that she was willing to pay the price of embracing politics, which would temporarily halt her career in the Nollywood industry.
Funke Akindele revealed in an interview with Punch Deji Lambo that her latest film, Battle on Buka Streets, is her farewell project before delving fully into politics.
Funke is running for the position of deputy governor of Lagos State, which is why he is leaving the film industry.
According to her, she is handing over the baton to the new ones, but she will remain in the background to advise and supervise them. She expressed how happy she is to have progressed from an actress to a writer, producer, and director, and to be discovering new talents.
"A significant positive change has occurred, if you have noticed," she stated. In addition to acting, I write, produce, direct, and discover new talent.
So, because I've moved into politics, I've passed the baton of production to the young people.
'Battle on Buka Street' is a sort of farewell, as I will be the next deputy governor of Lagos State. So I'm passing the torch to the newcomers because we need to give them a chance.
Yes, I will be there to advise and supervise them, but let them be the face, let us celebrate them, aren't you sick of seeing old faces?"
The mother of two also revealed that she shot the film during a difficult period in her life, most likely while dealing with her divorce from JJC Skillz.
"It was tedious; I filmed 'Battle on Buka Street' when I was really down, emotionally down, and this was before politics. So, rather than crying, I had to brace myself because many young people in the entertainment industry look up to me because we work together. So I can't just sit down; I just pushed through the pain and poured my emotions into the project, and today we see the big thing happening, which excites me.
