Sylvester Oromoni's father protests the length of the coroner's investigation

The late Sylvester Oromoni Jnrfather .'s has expressed displeasure over the protracted coroner investigation into his son's contentious death on November 30, 2021. Sylvester Oromoni Jnr. was a deceased student at Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos State.

In a statement issued today, Oromoni Sr. stated that as his son's remains is still at the mortuary, it will be exactly one year since his death on November 30, 2022.

Oromoni passed away in contentious circumstances. The Lagos State government ordered a coroner inquest to determine the cause of death in response to the commotion his death provoked. The inquest started on January 21, 2022, and it is still ongoing at the Magistrate Court, Epe (now Magistrate Court 20, Ogba).

The angry father claimed in a statement that he would be forced to leave the inquest if it wasn't over by the end of the year "in order to take a different legal procedure to seek justice."

He observed with alarm that the coroner's investigation on the Ikoyi building collapse of 2021, which resulted in the deaths of 52 people, did not take this long to complete. He continued by saying that the inquest into the death of Miss Jumoke Oyeleke at the Ojota Yoruba gathering had already been completed.

"My kid passed away a year ago today, on November 30, 2022, and his body is still in the mortuary, waiting to be buried. This one-year memorial is being conducted today to inform Nigerians and everyone else about the inquest's present status and the mischief of Dowen College.

I'm also aware that some NGOs and members of the civil society are commemorating his untimely death by holding similar events in Abuja and Lagos today.

May Sylvester Oromoni (Jr.soul )'s and the souls of all the deceased rest in peace. Amen.

As Nigerians and the rest of the world wait for justice to be served in this matter, I would like to make a formal request to the Honorable Coroner to stop the inquiry immediately. Justice delayed is justice denied.

This conflict isn't only about my late son; it's also about how I can stop something horrible like this from happening again.

In a similar spirit, we implore the Lagos State Government to bring swiftly to justice Dowen College and every member of staff who had been previously recommended for prosecution in the DPP Advice of December 30, 2021.

Since the start of this Coroner, Dowen College has already organized a number of items that weren't available at the relevant time on the school grounds.

You might be interested to hear that instead of the previously-used concrete basketball court, CCTV cameras have been installed, and a football field has been made available.

I must announce unequivocally that I will be forced to leave this inquest if it is not finished before the end of the year in order to pursue justice in a different way.

Due to Dowen College's failure to appear with the two last witnesses from the school, the coroner had to twice postpone the proceedings.
