Adeoye Fatimoh, a nursing mother, receives a six-year prison sentence for trafficking in illegal substances.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency counsel also informed the court that the conviction's offenses violated Section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. Due to her admission of guilt, the prosecutor urged the court to find her guilty and sentence her in accordance with the NDLEA act sections she was accused of violating. The prisoner pleaded with the judge for pity by promising that if given another chance, she would not commit any crimes.Chief Lilian Omotunde, the convict's attorney, urged the court to balance justice and mercy when passing judgment on her client. She also urged the court to take into account the convict's quick admission of guilt because he was a first-time offender with no prior convictions. Further requesting that the court take into account a fine judgment instead of a prison sentence, Chief Omotunde.
Justice Ringim sentenced the defendant to three years in jail on each count in his ruling. Justice Ringim provided the offender the option of paying a fine of N500,000 in count one solely while ordering that the imprisonment term run consecutively.
