'Made In Lagos (MIL),' Wizkid's critically acclaimed studio album, has hit a new milestone on America's Billboard Chart four days into the New Year.
'Made In Lagos,' Wizkid's fourth album, has entered its fourth year on the Billboard World albums chart, with more than 100 weeks on the chart.
The work has been on the chart for four years in a row, in 2020, 2021, 2022, and now in 2023. Wizkid is the first and only African artist to achieve this feat on Billboard.
The 'Made In Lagos' album was published on October 30, 2022, and was nominated for the 64th Grammy Award in the category of 'Best Global Music Album'. Tems, Burna Boy, Damian Marley, Tay Iwar, H.E.R., Ella Mai, Terri, and Projexx all appeared on the project.
Justin Bieber and BNXN (formerly known as Buju) also worked together on the deluxe edition of 'Made In Lagos,' which was released on August 27, 2021.
Wizkid (born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun on July 16, 1990) is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. Wizkid is regarded as one of the largest and most influential African singers of all time, and is a key presence in the modern-day Afrobeats music scene. At the age of 11, he began recording music and published a collaboration CD with the Glorious Five (5), a group he and a couple of his church mates founded. Wizkid secured a record deal with Banky W's Empire Mates Entertainment in 2009. (E.M.E). Later, he rose to prominence with the release of "Holla at Your Boy," the lead single off his debut studio album, Superstar (2011), which also yielded the hits "Tease Me/Bad Guys" and "Don't Dull."
Ayo, his self-titled second studio album, was released in September 2014. Six singles, including "Jaiye Jaiye," were released in promotion of the album. After his contract with E.M.E. expired, Wizkid left. Wizkid rose to international prominence in 2016 after collaborating with Drake on the hit tune "One Dance," which peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topping the charts in 14 other nations. The song broke numerous records, making Wizkid the first Afrobeats artist to be inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records. He secured a multi-album deal with RCA Records in March 2017 and released his third studio album, Sounds from the Other Side, later that year. Five singles were released in promotion of the album, including "Come Closer," which featured Drake.
Wizkid was born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun in Surulere, Lagos, on July 16, 1990. He was raised in an interfaith family with twelve female siblings. His mother is a Pentecostal Christian, but his father is Muslim. Wizkid went to Ijebu Ode Grammar School. He was raised on the music of King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti, and Bob Marley. "His father has three wives," he revealed in a radio interview with Tim Westwood in 2012. In an additional interview with Adesope of Factory 78 TV, Wizkid revealed that he founded the Glorious Five with a couple of his church buddies. They were able to release an album before disbanding. Until 2006, Wizkid went by the stage name Lil Prinz. Later, he met OJB Jezreel, a record producer who barred him from recording for a year. He witnessed 2 Face Idibia record songs for his Grass 2 Grace album while frequently visiting OJB's Point Beat Studios. He was also there during Sound Sultan's debut album Jagbajantis' recording sessions. He mentioned Naeto C as someone who mentored and guided him when he was 15 years old. In 2009, Wizkid signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment. He collaborated on the song "Omoge You Too Much," which appears on Banky W.'s The W Experience album.
