Brymo, a Nigerian artist, has finally submitted to pressure and apologized to Igbos.
Thousands of Nigerians joined a petition to prevent the artist from receiving the All Africa Music Award, for which he was nominated in the 'Songwriter of the Year' category.
The artist was chastised for claiming that the Igbos are not prepared to produce a Nigerian president.
He also urged the region to try out for the vice presidency before striving for the presidency.
Brymo, on the other hand, apologized to the Igbos on Twitter a few hours ago.
He begged them to pardon him for what appeared to be prejudiced rants against the Igbo tribe.
Brymo indicated that he did not intend to injure them, thus his apology.
"I apologize for what appeared to be prejudiced rants against the Igbo tribe. I apologize for any inconvenience caused.
"My apologies are extended to all Igbos who may not be aware," he continued. I missed it since I'm most impacted when I'm near to someone. Do accept my apology, I did not mean harm".
Brymo had previously clarified his 'bigotted' statement to the Igbos.
Brymo noted on his Instagram page that the whole saga began with Chimamanda Adichie earning a Chieftaincy title in her community but declining a national honour.
According to him, he has been an advocate for Igbo presidency in recent years and was just criticizing the Ndi Igbo movement, with which he is clearly unhappy.
Brymo claimed that his statements were misinterpreted because he did not offend any tribe.
"It is very crucial you understand that this entire controversy began with me seeing in the media that Chimamanda Adichie denied some national accolades and had taken up some traditional title in the East at home.
You wouldn't believe how much I've pushed for an Igbo presidency in the previous five years.
"When I stated 'Fuck Ndi'Igbo to hell with it,' the 'it' refers to the peddlers of the movement, i.e. individuals championing for it," he clarified.
On insulting the tribe, Brymo remarked, " I did not insult the tribe, I am sorry to anyone who it sounded as such to. I was trying to weigh into a really serious topic".
