As another kid from the renowned Lagos school Chrisland School died, the internet went into a frenzy.
A student at Chrisland International High School, Opebi, named Whitney Adeniran passed away while competing in inter-house sports in Lagos.
The 12-year-old girl reportedly passed away on February 9, 2023, in Agege Stadium, according to her father, Dr. Michael Adeyemi Adeniran.
As of the time the school bus picked her up for the event, he claimed the girl was healthy and unill.
"To the worst shock of my life by 1 pm in the afternoon, I got a call from my wife that she was informed that our daughter slumped during the inter-house sport and she was brought to the clinic," he wrote in a Facebook post where he was asking for justice and an explanation. Even before the event began, my wife was there. She was never phoned or told until after they had taken our child out of the location.
"When my wife arrived at the medical facility where they had taken my kid, the girl was already dead and had black lips and tongue.
"When my wife immediately contacted me, I left my workplace and went to the location, where I discovered my 12-year-old daughter lying dead on the ground. When I questioned the school administration about what had happened to my daughter, they were unable to provide me with any answers.
"I sent a little girl who was healthy and full of life to Chrisland School; what Chrisland delivered to me is a dead child." The school authority said they were unaware of my daughter's death and that all they knew was that she had slumped and passed away, despite the fact that my entire family is in tremendous sadness.
