How people hear my tiny voice and assume I’m sweet – Simi begs to defer; speaks on motherhood, marriage
Simi, a musician from Nigeria, has spoken out about how, despite having a little voice, people often mistakenly think she is lovely.
Simi opened up to YouTuber Korty EO about her music, motherhood, and marriage because of her clear commitment to honesty.
Simi discussed her longevity in the business and what she would have done differently.
"I wasn't the average artist woman. I believe that many individuals may identify with that. She's like, uh, the typical girl next door. People may have connected with the fact that I'm not attempting to appear to be someone or something I'm not.
The one thing I could think of that I occasionally wish I had done differently is to perhaps be less approachable. Access can occasionally breed insult. Many people hear my voice and assume I'm lovely since it's so tiny, but I'm not. I'm not really that nice. I detest insults. I dislike garbage. Do not imagine that you can come and test me and I will withdraw from the conflict. I'm fucking you up, bro.
Simi also discussed the challenges of motherhood, particularly how the music industry views her differently from her husband, fellow musician Adekunle Gold. Simi stated:
"I have extra obligations. I now have a child. I guess I don't have as much time to relax now. I work in the music business, and a big part of what I need to do that is be able to live my life carelessly.
I used to have the freedom to act and be in places impulsively, but unlike her father, I no longer do. It costs more to live your life. Even taking a youngster on a flight is expensive. Someone wants to pay less when they hear "sheyb you're now a mum." Due to the fact that I was pregnant, someone wanted to pay me less.
The consistency that it is unending. I knew how to be a mother and a worker, but I felt like I had lost my sense of who I was. And a lot of who I am can be heard in my songs. It's excellent for those who want children. Nobody should feel pressured to start a family since it's like an endless burden, in my opinion. If you don't want children, simply live your life.
Simi said, "The most lovely thing about my marriage is that we stay together."
"I guess what I'm saying is that we keep picking each other. The noise and distractions are numerous. I believe that the support I've received from others is what has allowed me to accomplish what I have thus far.
