Nigerian artist Paul Okoye of Psquare bemoaned the lack of Naira notes and how it was affecting him right now.
Nigerians have reportedly experienced a shortage of new Naira notes since the implementation of the Naira redesign strategy.
Paul Okoye claimed in an Instagram post that he required cash and purchased 40,000 Naira at the embassy for 70,000 Naira.
He said that Nigeria was "setting new marks" at the moment.
He stated:
Omo!! Today, I purchase money! simply because I must give an embassy a certain fee that can only be paid in cash. Joking aside, I spent 70k on 40k. Naija setting new marks, aah.
The singer also criticized the Senate for asking the Central Bank of Nigeria for a six-month extension of the limit for the circulation of old Naira notes (CBN).
Remember that legislators recommended delaying the apex bank's deadline to July 31, 2023 in a plenary statement on Tuesday.
This comes in response to a motion made at Tuesday's plenary by Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar (APC, Kwara), who argued that there weren't enough fresh notes in circulation and that the January 31st limit couldn't be met because it would destabilize the nation.
In order to give Nigerians, especially those in rural areas, more time to swap their old notes, the Senate asked the CBN to extend the deadline by six months.
Paul Okoye criticized the Senate for its sudden eagerness to ease Nigerians' difficulties in obtaining the new notes on his Instagram page on Sunday in response to their order.
The artist further questioned the Senate's silence during the pandemic that caused many Nigerians to go hungry.
