NUC orders universities to close in preparation for the general elections.

 The National Universities Commission, or NUC, has ordered universities all throughout the nation to close from February 22 to March 14, 2023, so that students can participate in the general elections. All vice chancellors received a circular in that regard, which was signed by the Deputy Executive Secretary, Dr. Chris Mayaki. The 2023 General Elections have been scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 25, 2023, for the Presidential and National Assembly, and on Saturday, March 1, 2023, for the Gubernatorial and State Assembly, respectively. This is well known to all Vice-Chancellors of all Universities and the Director/Chief Executive of Inter-University Centers.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Mal. Adama Adamu, has ordered that all universities and inter-university centers close and academic activities are suspended between February 22 and March 14, 2023, in light of the aforementioned and concerns expressed about the security of staff, students, and properties of our respective institutions. 

"As a result, this Circular requests that Vice-Chancellors and the heads of inter-university centers close their respective institutions from Wednesday, February 22, to Tuesday, March 14, 2023. The letter from the NUC begins, "Please appreciate the repeated assurances of the Executive Secretary's highest regards for your understanding and unflinching cooperation. The public has demanded that higher schools close so that students can cast ballots in the elections of 2023. Over 26 million students are currently listed in the Independent National Electoral Commission's registry, according to its data.
