Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), met with Nollywood actors and other entertainment industry players on Thursday to ask for their support in advance of the upcoming 2023 election.
The former governor of Anambra exhorted the artists to support him as one of their own during the meeting, which took place at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi and was attended by Peter and Paul Okoye.
Remember how the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, referred to the LP candidate as a "Nollywood actor" and urged him to concentrate on the business rather than seek the presidency?
"Peter Obi cannot win the election, he doesn't have the 25% in more than 16 states, he can't go anyplace, and that's all he will be," the Kaduna governor declared. Due to their spread and presence, the APC and PDP are the two candidates in this election.
"A Sitting Governor dubbed me a Nollywood actor," Peter Obi remarked in his speech at the occasion. "That's why I summoned all of you here as my colleagues; I want you to support one of your own."
When I went to Anambra state to run for governor, I told the people that if I take a kobo that doesn't belong to me or that I'm not entitled to, God should punish me and my family because I have enough money and have no need to steal public money. "Coming out this night shows that you are beginning to care for your country," I said.
He emphasized that he was running for office to help the nation, not to accumulate fortune.
"God given me enough of what I need to be able to survive the rest of my life without doing anything, even if anything bad happens today. I have enough for my family as well as myself; we may not have enough for others, but we do have enough for ourselves.
"This election this year is essential for all of us; for the youth, it's an existential election, as everything the country has done for the last 10 years is promote insecurity," he continued.
